Mel B. Duffey

Mel founded two consulting firms: M.B. Duffey & Company, Inc. (1980) and Arete Management (1995), both now part of ESOP Advisors Group. In addition to consulting on ESOP design, formation and implementation, Mel works with client companies on strategic planning, marketing and operational issues to maximize the benefits of developing an ownership culture.

Mel has almost 30 years experience in the management-consulting arena where he has worked with clients in numerous industries to develop and implement start-up and turn-around strategies. His strength is developing “customer-focused” market strategies and developing “ownership cultures”. Additionally, he has worked with the Public Sector and Chaired the planning committee to establish the Private Industry Council of San Mateo County, under the first Federally mandated (JTPA) Public/Private partnership. He is qualified in Total Quality Management and Human Resource Development. Prior to becoming a consultant, Mel held senior marketing and operational positions with major companies in the Hospitality Industry. Mel began his career with Spencliff Corporation in Hawaii while attending the University of Hawaii and joined Tom Brady’s ESOP Capital Strategies Group as a Vice President in 2000. In addition to working on Business Development, Mel has consulted in all aspects of ESOP design, formation and implementation.

Mel and Corie, married in 1968, have two adult children and currently live in Menlo Park, California.
